City Slicker and Philafel in a tense final

As Backgammon tournaments go May 28th will be remembered as the tournament to end all tournaments; the line-up was impressive when all former winners were together for a show down that would send ripples through the world of backgammon that could be felt as far away as Bandon.

First blood went to Philafel (Formally “The Body”) when he took revenge on “The Quiet Man” by beating him soundly 3-0.

Next to fall was DJ Mike Wolf to Cool Hand Luke in another 3-0 demolition. The Persian Prince then had to fight hard to beat Bone Crusher 3=2. Big Bad John then bitch slapped The Persian

Tiger 5-0 as The Bull fell to City Slicker 5-2.

The Klingon then met The Persian Tiger when The Tiger got a re-buy into the first round and fell yet again 3-2, is this the end of The Persian Tiger’s winning ways?

In another re-buy The Bull took out The Quiet Man 5-0 and Bone Crusher downed DJ Mike Wolf 3-0, it was now time for the quarter final.

Philafel more revenge on his nemeses Cool Hand Luke by winning 3-0, The Persian Prince then quite surprisingly to Big Bad John 5-0 and then first time competition entrant City Slicker hammered The Klingon 5-1 closely followed by The Bull’s demolition of Bone Crusher.

On to the Semi-Final Philafel then crushed young hopeful Big Bad John 3-0 and City Slicker made mincemeat of The Bull in a hard fought battle that went to 5-3.

The Final brought together City Slicker and Philafel in what was to be a tense final. Philafel took an early lead but City Slicker quickly equalised and then pushed ahead, Philafel then looked like he was in the running when everything that could go wrong did go wrong and City Slicker took advantage of some very suspect play and went on to a 5-3 victory.

All in all a good tournament with some surprises. The next tournament on 25th June looks like there are going to be a few grudge matches and revenge games, watch this space for more exiting news from the world of Backgammon
