Texting from inside the venue, Club Chairperson Phil "The Body" let the world know how the three were faring.

In a breath-taking match Stephen "The Klingon" played last year's Irish champion Paul O’Kelly and worked from 7-0 down to a triumphant 8-10 position to win in a final that was decided only on the last throw of a double 1 and beat him 8 - 11. The crowd went crazy and there was not a dry eye or trouser in the house.

The Irish Finals
Stephen eventually bowed out to British champion Peter Bennett in another great match he could of won guv, I 'ad 'im I tell ya. Covered in glory he was able to watch teammate Nicky make it to the semi-finals of the Dublin Challenge Trophy and return with a magnificent Kinsale Glass ashtray, cash and kudos.

The name of Clonakilty Backgammon Club is now on everyone's lips.
